  17. <p>    Pit bulls have chewed their own reputation -- as well as a
  18. number of people -- to shreds. But last week none other than
  19. actor Jeremy Miller, of ABC's Growing Pains, came to the beasts'
  20. defense. If pit bulls are vicious, insisted Jeremy, it is the
  21. fault of their owners, who don't treat them with enough love and
  22. care. As for his own pit, named Sarge, "He looks mean, but he's
  23. so sweet." The real danger, says Miller, is his hamster
  24. Samantha, whose teeth are wicked. Ouch!
